Needless to say, we want your shed to be beautiful right after we’ve built it. But here’s the thing … we’re not just building it to be beautiful when we drive away. We’re building it to be beautiful 10 to 20 years from now and beyond (tag: shed door trim)
The two primary ways to accomplish this is to build with superior craftsmanship and to use high-quality materials that last. With that goal in mind, it’s a no-brainer for us to use PVC trim at the corners of our sheds and around the doors and windows. Here’s why:
Durabilty that Outlasts Wood
Unlike wood, PVC trim never deteriorates. Wood is vulnerable to moisture, insects and rot. This means that over time, you’ll need to repair or replace it, especially in rainy or humid environments like Houston, Texas. PVC, on the other hand, is impervious to these elements. This makes it an ideal choice for shed door trim, window trim and corner trim, where exposure to the weather is constant.
Low Maintenance Shed Door Trim
One of the standout benefits of PVC trim is that it requires very little upkeep. Wood trim typically needs to be sanded, sealed and repainted to maintain its appearance and structural integrity. Who has time for that!? With PVC trim, you can skip all that hassle. It doesn’t warp or absorb moisture, meaning it keeps its shape and finish for years. The occasional wipe with a wet rap makes it look as good as when the shed was built.
Moisture and Mold Resistant
For shed owners, moisture damage is one the most significant concerns. Traditional wooden trim an swell, crack and develop mold when exposed to damp conditions. PVC is completely resistant to moisture. This prevents any growth of mold or mildew around your shed doors, windows and corners. This adds to the lifespan of your shed while keeping it looking fresh and clean.
Improved Aesthetics
PVC trim also enhances the overall aesthetic appeal of your shed. It provides a clean, modern look that stays pristine over time, without the need for frequent repainting or touch-ups. Its natural white finish and wood-grain texture compliment the LP SmartSide panels we use on our sheds, whether the panels are painted or not.
Of course, not everybody wants white as the color of their shed trim. This is especially true for those who want their panels painted white. When this is the case, they will often prefer a darker color for their trim. We don’t use PVC trim in these scenarios because it simply cannot be painted. Paint doesn’t stick to it’s glossy surface.
Instead, we use LP SmartSide trim in these cases. It has the exact same texture as LP SmartSide panels and they’re just as easy to paint. This too is a long-lasting produce that holds up well over time.

Here’s a good example where we used LP Smartside trim, which is paintable, instead of white PVC trim, which is not paintable.
Eco-Friendly and Cost-Effective
While the initial cost of PVC trim may be higher than wood, its long-term benefits make it a cost-effective choice. The fact that it won’t need replacing or repairing nearly as often as wood trim means that the more expensive product offers more value in the long run. Additionally, many PVC products are recyclable or reusable for other purposes.
Offering real value to our customers is one of our core principles at Houston Sheds. By using better materials, we make it possible for your shed investment to last for many years.
